About the event

Accomplished TV screenwriter Sarah Bassiuoni started as a note-taker on the ABC’s The Heights (S2) after deciding her original profession as a lawyer wasn’t for her. Since then, she’s worked as a script editor, writer and EP on numerous film and television projects, including most recently the new ABC series Ladies In Black and the about-to-drop Critical Incident contemporary crime drama series from Matchbox Productions which she created and is the lead writer and co-EP on.

In this session, Sarah will talk about her work as a writer and script editor of successful TV series and give her insights, from practical experience, on what it really takes to forge a successful career in this field (clue: it’s not all about the writing!).

Key takeout information will include:

  • The power of networking and forging industry relationships
  • Knowing what type of writer you aspire to be and tailoring your career approach accordingly
  • Understanding your own abilities (and limitations!).

Sarah will also give practical insights, drawn from her own experience of coming into the industry after several years in a completely different profession, on how to find those crucial but elusive stepping-stone opportunities in writer’s rooms - and how to make the most of them when you get them!
