About the event

If you’re an aspiring TV writer or showrunner, figuring out what exactly happens in the writer’s room - and how to get a job in one - can seem daunting and mysterious.

Fortunately Chris Corbett, one of Australia’s most experienced writers, is here to peel back the curtain and walk us through the mechanics of the writer’s room, from the inception of the idea through the beating out of the story and into production. He’ll be taking us through the various roles and responsibilities of the team - including those elusive “stepping stone” roles of observer and note-taker.

As a seasoned professional, Chris will also reveal what he looks for when putting together a writers' room and the qualities you need to exhibit if you want to make it as a TV writer.

Crucially, he’ll be sharing key insights and advice on how to land writer’s room opportunities and why it’s not all about the writing - “soft skills” including networking and being a good collaborator, taking feedback, are just some of the qualities you need to hone when taking those early steps towards being a successful working writer.

This session is a unique opportunity to hear the perspective of an industry professional and find out what he looks for when recruiting for observer, note-taker and writer roles within those teams.
